“It won’t happen to me!” Many people don’t truly understand how an accident or illness away from home could affect them and their families. That’s why real-life stories are so compelling. Here are a few claims examples which demonstrate the necessity of travel insurance. Your clients shouldn’t travel without it.
Surfing accident changes one man’s life forever
A 36–year–old man from Toronto, ON was surfing near Big Sur in California when he was knocked over by a large wave. His neck was fractured, resulting
in complete paralysis from the waist down and partial paralysis from the neck to the waist. It was more than a month before he was medically fit to return home. At that
time, OneWorld Assist arranged for business class seats that were medically necessary. The insured and medical escort then returned home for continuing treatment and
rehabilitation.

What’s most important is how your clients are looked after during their time of need—claim time. Here’s just one example of how our claims company, OneWorld Assist, exceeded expectations.
“I want to take a moment to thank everyone at OneWorld Assist for being there in my time of need. While I was vacationing in Paris in early June 2008, I had the
misfortune of having a heart attack. While the event was stressful, it could have been much more serious had OneWorld Assist not intervened on my behalf. Representatives
contacted my spouse and they regularly communicated with the hospital in Paris throughout my stay to ensure I was properly cared for.
Given the language barrier—I don’t speak French, and my inability to advocate for myself, it was good to have someone able to work on my behalf. The
Parisian medical system was excellent and the care and professionalism I received was beyond compare. This was possible thanks to OneWorld Assist advocating on my
behalf and ensuring I received the best possible medical attention.
Subsequent to the heart attack, OneWorld Assist guided me through the claims process with easy to read and understand forms. Often insurance companies have forms
that take legal expertise to understand. Not so with OneWorld Assist. When questions did arise, I was always able to get in touch with representatives in a timely manner.
They were helpful, courteous, and quickly answered any questions I had. OneWorld Assist respected my right to privacy and only asked for information directly relevant to
my claim. My claim was processed quickly including reimbursement of all bills and costs associated with the heart attack.
OneWorld Assist made the best of having an unfortunate ‘souvenir’ from Paris. I am glad they were there for me.”
